الدعاء للمريض
A specific supplication recommended when visiting or comforting someone who is unwell.
أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
“Remove the affliction, Lord of humankind, grant healing, for You are the Healer; there is no healing but Yours — a healing that leaves no illness behind.” (meaning, not a literal translation)
This supplication is reported to have been used by the Prophet ﷺ himself when visiting the sick, with his own hand placed on the person as he recited it — pairing the same physical-plus-verbal structure seen in the hand-on-pain entry, applied here specifically when comforting someone else rather than oneself.
Ibn al-Qayyim frames supplication as one of three integrated elements of Prophetic treatment alongside physical remedy and professional skill — not a replacement for either, but accompanying both. He's explicit that supplication doesn't substitute for seeking out an effective physical remedy or a skilled practitioner; the tradition treats these as complementary layers rather than alternatives to choose between.
This is a devotional practice rather than a claim modern medicine tests directly — its value, as with other spiritual remedies on this site, is understood within a framework of faith rather than measurable physiological outcome.
